ZEV Background
In 1990, CARB adopted an ambitious program to significantly reduce the environmental impact of light-duty vehicles through commercial introduction of ZEVs into the California fleet. The ZEV Regulation remains critically important in meeting California’s health-based air quality standards and greenhouse gas reduction goals and has spurred many new technologies that are being driven on California’s roads today, such as battery electric vehicles, fuel cell electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Vehicle manufacturers are required to produce a number of ZEVs and ZEV-enabling technologies each year. The data disclosed provides information on vehicle manufacturers’ compliance with the ZEV Regulation (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 13, § 1962.2).
